{"id":326,"date":"2018-11-05T10:54:20","date_gmt":"2018-11-05T15:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heliotropicsystems.com\/blog\/?p=326"},"modified":"2018-11-05T10:54:31","modified_gmt":"2018-11-05T15:54:31","slug":"spooky-things-ignore-those-phone-calls-from-microsoft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heliotropicsystems.com\/blog\/index.php\/spooky-things-ignore-those-phone-calls-from-microsoft\/","title":{"rendered":"Spooky Things: Ignore Those Phone Calls from \u201cMicrosoft\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have written about this before (and will undoubtedly do so again), but those phone calls you get from someone with a heavy accent, claiming they are from \u201cMicrosoft\u201d or \u201cTech Support,\u201d saying they have received information from your computer about problems that need to be fixed are nothing but <em><strong>pure crap<\/strong><\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll keep this simple: If you get one of these calls, just hang up. You can\u2019t tell them to put you on a \u201cdo not call\u201d list, they don\u2019t \/ won\u2019t listen to that. They don\u2019t care. All they are interested in is scamming people. They get money from spreading FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) to anyone who doesn\u2019t know enough about computers to know better.<\/p>\n<p>These are incredibly vile profiteers, because after they have falsely convinced a suspect that something is wrong with their computer, and while purporting to help, they install malicious software on the computer and then charge \u2014 in most cases as much as $150 \u2014 to do this.<\/p>\n<p>So, save your breath, and especially your money. Just hang up the phone.
